What is a Perineoplasty?
Also known as perineal scar revision, perineoplasty is a minimally invasive surgery to repair damaged perineal tissue. The area between the rectum and vagina, called the perineum, supports the reproductive organs and the pelvic floor muscles. This area is prone to tearing during childbirth and also due to weight loss or trauma, resulting in disfigurement and scars.
A perineoplasty surgery effectively heals tearing, scarring or laxed musculature to restore the function of the perineum. The procedure additionally helps tighten and strengthen the perineum and vaginal opening. It also repairs the damaged and scarred skin around the vagina significantly restoring the aesthetic appearance and functionality of the perineal area.

The Perineoplasty Procedure

Here’s what you can expect at our leading perineoplasty clinic in Michigan:
Before any surgical or non-surgical procedure at our state-of-the-art clinic in Michigan, we offer a no-cost, no-obligation consultation to our first-time patients. Our lead surgeon will address your intimate concerns during this consultation and determine which treatments best suit your requirements.
Perineoplasty can be performed as a stand-alone procedure or combined with other complementary procedures such as labiaplasty, vaginoplasty and more. The treatment begins with our surgeon’s precise incision using a fine-tipped radiofrequency knife. This is followed by removing scarred, or excess skin and tissue. The operated area is then closed with dissolvable sutures.
Our advanced, precision-based technologies allow us to perform the procedure without putting the patient under general anesthesia. The procedure is completed in approximately 30 minutes under safe and hygienic measures at our clinic.
We offer our patients a combination of local anesthesia and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to ensure the surgery, although minimally invasive, is pain-free and comfortable. The local anesthesia we use works for a long time, enabling the patient to travel home in comfort.
Patients are recommended to wear loose-fitting bottoms and ice the area intermittently during the first few days to reduce inflammation and pain. Also, it is advised to keep activities to a minimum for the first 72 hours. The patient can then resume a more normal activity level after the first few days of procedure.
Patients require at least two follow-up sessions after the procedure to ensure proper recovery. The first follow-up will be scheduled a week post-surgery and the next 4 weeks later.
What Causes Perineal Damage?
Vaginal Delivery
Childbirth is the number one cause contributing to perineal damage. Vaginal deliveries subject significant stress to vaginal and perineal tissues, often causing tearing. In most cases, obstetricians make a small cut to the perineum in order to facilitate child delivery, leading to scarring during the restoration process.
Extreme Weight Gain
Excess weight puts pressure on the body and the muscles of the vagina and perineum. It also stretches out this area leading to extreme laxity. A perineoplasty can help correct this by repairing, and consequently tightening the vaginal opening, perineum.
Instant Weight Loss
Losing weight drastically can also cause the skin to sag. This affects the perineal region as well. Many women find this unattractive; some have reported it to cause loss of sensation and sexual arousal. A perineoplasty can help restore its function & aesthetics.

We Focus On Aesthetic Details
The perineum is the visible area between the anus and the vagina. During childbirth, the perineum is often torn and ruptured. Besides this, the perineal area can also be affected by ageing, genetics, extreme weight loss or gain, trauma and certain medical conditions.
Perineal damage can lead to reduced sensation, scarring, pain during sexual intercourse, vaginal laxity and, in extreme cases, even urinary incontinence.
Our cutting-edge, minimally invasive perineoplasty surgery is performed using advanced radiofrequency knives and dissolvable sutures to restore the lacerations. This allows for a shorter recovery time, comfortable healing and significant improvement in the functionality and appearance of the perineum and external vagina.

Other Complementary Procedures We Provide
Perineoplasty may be performed as a stand-alone procedure. However, complementary treatments are often recommended for optimal vaginal rejuvenation. At Alinea Medical Michigan, we offer additional procedures, as listed below, that are often combined with perineoplasty for the best results.
Benefits of Perineoplasty
From enhancing the vaginal and perineal appearance to improving sexual response, perineoplasty has a number of reasons why it is one of the most in-demand vaginal rejuvenation procedures.
Improved Aesthetic Appearance
Women are often subjected to vaginal and perineal tears during childbirth. The scarring from this can be successfully removed with a perineoplasty. This helps patients gain comfort and confidence.
Enhanced Sexual Function
A damaged perineum due to childbirth, trauma or certain medical conditions can cause laxity & issues during intercourse. Perineoplasty tightens the tissue leading to enhanced sensitivity and sexual function.
Increased Comfort
Improper healing of perineal scarring can cause discomfort during sexual intercourse or even daily activities. Perineoplasty repairs these damages to help get rid of pain and discomfort.
Reversal of Overtightening
Sometimes, poor healing from a previous vaginal procedure can leave the perineum overtightened. A perineoplasty can help to reverse the effects of overtightening.
